Where to Start: Social Security 101 for Mental Health

Knowing where to start when you think you need Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance can be difficult. Join NAMI Central Texas and Reneé Treviño of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid for an introduction to the benefits and limitations of SSI and SSDI when mental health challenges are the cause of the disability.

Reneé Treviño, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc.

Ms. Treviño practices law in the San Antonio, Texas office of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. (TRLA). She is a legal advocate for low-income Texans and Group Coordinator of the TRLA Public Benefits Group which consists of four teams including the Public Benefits Team, Health Law Team, Advocacy for the Homeless Team, and the Veteran Advocacy Project. The Public Benefits Group is based on a two-prong approach of community education and legal advocacy on behalf of clients who are wrongfully denied government benefits. Ms. Treviño is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (1989), and Northeastern University School of Law (1994). She is licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, as well as in the United States District Court for the Southern and Western Districts of Texas. She is an active participant in the Public Benefits and Health Law Task Force for the State Bar of Texas.
