NAMIWalks Your Way Central Texas Brings Community Together for Mental Health

AUSTIN, TX (September 20, 2022) — It’s a new day for mental health in America. More people are speaking openly about their mental health conditions than ever before, and the need for
mental health services is on the rise.

Austin-area residents are invited to join the NAMIWalks Your Way Central Texas 5K and walk festival from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 24 at the Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road.The annual awareness event is presented by NAMI Central Texas and raises funds for NAMI’s free, top-rated programs, amplifies awareness to eliminate stigma, and strengthens the ever-growing mental health community. This year’s fundraising goal is $290,000.

“This year promises to be a banner year for the hundreds who turn out to help us move closer to our goal of mental health for all,” said NAMI Central Texas Executive Director Kate Hix. “We’re poised to take NAMIWalks Your Way Central Texas to a new level and continue to be an integral part of the growing mental health movement.”

NAMIWalks Your Way Central Texas is sponsored by Integral Care, State Farm, Alkermes,Kensington, and The Mind-Body Collaborative. For more information or to register, visit namiwalks.org/centraltx. There is no registration fee, but fundraising is encouraged. Participants raising at least $100 receive an event T-shirt. One hundred percent of funds raised support NAMI Central Texas’ free local mental health programs, resources and services.

NAMIWalks features a 5K walk through downtown Austin, looping the Texas Capitol before returning to the Palmer Events Center. After the 5K portion of the event, NAMI Central Texas hosts NAMIWalks Festival from 10 a.m. to noon. The festival features games, information and resources from community partners, opportunities to learn about NAMI programming and volunteering, and live music from Austin’s Salero.
