NAMI Central Texas Announces New Executive Director

NAMI Central Texas is excited to announce Kate Hix as its Executive Director.

“We are thrilled and fortunate to welcome Kate as our Executive Director,” said Julie Almendral, President of the NAMI Central Texas Board of Directors. “She brings a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector, as well as a background in law and human resources, that will set up NAMI Central Texas for continued success as we respond to the growing needs of our community."

As the former Executive Director of Zilker Theatre Productions, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Austin, Hix brings experience ensuring ongoing excellence and deep commitment to mission in all aspects of a nonprofit organization. She even helped increase ZTP’s annual budget by 100% during her tenure.

Hix also served as the Director of Operations for Austin Voices for Education and Youth. During her time, she improved operational systems in support of the organization's mission and helped manage the Human Resources, IT, and Finance Departments.

Hix, who earned her law degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, comes to NAMI Central Texas most recently as the Director of Human Resources and Operations at Zinda Law Group in Austin. She also brings experience as an attorney, having worked at a large International firm as an Associate Attorney and as a practicing criminal law attorney. Hix uses her legal experience to help navigate regulatory and compliance issues in the nonprofit sector.

“I am ready to hit the ground running with NAMI Central Texas,” Hix said. “The work NAMI Central Texas is doing in the community to provide support, education, and advocacy around mental health is inspiring, and I cannot wait to work with the team to continue these grassroots efforts and impact more individuals and families in our community. I want to thank the Board for this opportunity and the rest of the NAMI Central Texas staff for such a warm welcome.”
