Support for Coping After A Community Tragedy

NAMI Central Texas is committed to providing support and resources for our community as we all come to grips with the tragedy that occurred this week at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts, prayers, and sympathy go out to all the families, first responders, and anyone struggling to make sense of this event.

Here are a few things to remember going into this holiday weekend:

    • It is normal to feel distressed even if you were not directly affected
    • There is no timeline for grief, so allow yourself and your loved ones as much time as they need.
    •  Maintain good boundaries and focus on things that make you feel good.
      • Get rest, spend time outside and practice healthy eating habits
      • Limit social media/news and anything with violent content
      •  Surround yourself with people who are emotionally supportive and enhance your well-being. (Fur babies are the best)
      •  Do your best to follow your everyday routines
  • Most importantly, You are not alone, and it is okay to ask for help.

We’ve compiled some information and resources to support healing.
