Why do insurance companies still feel free to deny medically necessary treatments for mental health conditions, even while claiming to cover them? Why do governments still hesitate to enforce laws for mental health parity? And why does our culture both endorse and ignore the realities of mental health? Dr. Morehead will discuss our cultural ambivalence about mental health and straightforward ways of confronting it with science and sympathy.

Daniel Morehead MD is a psychiatrist who speaks nationally for mental health education. He is author of Science Over Stigma: Education and Advocacy for Mental health, and Director of Psychiatry Residency Training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to this, he enjoyed a private practice in Austin for twenty years. He maintains interests in psychotherapy, brain science, and spirituality.
