Coping with the Holiday Blues: Tips and tools for managing holiday stress
November 12, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Often touted as the "most wonderful time of the year," the winter holidays can also be a time of sadness for individuals and families grieving the loss of a loved one, living with a chronic illness, facing financial burdens, or simply overwhelmed by the many expectations of the season. These challenges will be exacerbated by the isolation and uncertainty of the pandemic. Begin your holiday preparations with NAMI Central Texas as we share tips and tools for coping with the holiday blues.
Speakers

Karen Ranus
Executive Director, NAMI Central Texas
Karen Ranus has served as the Executive Director of NAMI Central Texas (previously NAMI Austin) since 2014. She sits on the Travis County Behavioral Health & Judicial Advisory Committee, the Travis County Psychiatric Stakeholder’s Group and the Steering Committee for the Austin State Hospital System Redesign. Karen has developed and implemented mental health programs to address the needs of faith communities, law enforcement, workplaces and parents of teens. She believes in the power of storytelling to engage people in important conversations on mental health, and often shares her own family's story to help others overcome the shame and stigma still prevalent in the community and to help create systemic change.
